Let’s see—what records should I play this evening for my listeners’ entertainment? I have some Billie Holliday and some Stan Getz here. That should set the right mood, don’t you think? Yeah—an evening of jazz and blues to honor all my diehards. Oh, look—here’s one I haven’t heard myself in many years. Bankruptcy Blues, by Jim Farrison. This is a classic 1938 78-RPM about a gambler who’s lost all of his money and is begging for change, so he can have a couple more drinks. I’ll just put that one right in the middle. I got the bankruptcy blues, baby, yes I do, just feelin’ like I’m drownin’ in the stew, anybody spare a few so I’s have one more brew?, etc. Wow, that’s so cool. Let’s throw a little Basin Street in there and maybe a Robert Johnson, oh yeah. Now, about that jazz. What did I do with my CD of jazz greats that has Woody Herman on it. I can’t find it anywhere, so I must have left it at home. That’s really too bad. He would have fit in perfectly with all this great music. Oh, well. My program starts at 7 PM, so I still have at least half an hour to drink at least two cups of coffee and chill. I want to get real, real mellow to have that special effect on my cool, savvy listeners.
