One of the many advantages of home security is that so long as I test it for a few minutes once a month to make sure everything is working, then I can be lazy all the rest of the time concerning home security. I don’t have to do much more than lock the doors and that’s been ingrained in me since I was little kid. Now most of the time when I’m at home, I can just lie there on the couch, crack open a beer, and watch the soap opera channel for hours on end. Yes, I am a man and I am unafraid to say that I love the soap opera channel. I caught ten minutes of the end of an old episode of General Hospital from the late 1970s and got hooked. I want nothing to disturb me as I watch my soaps. That’s why we have this home security system. Someone tries to break in and I just have to sit there and watch TV while the alarms go off, shutters drop down and block the windows, and the police are automatically called. Sure, there might be a racket, but I can just turn up the volume. And if a thief got between me and watching The Guiding Light? I might just have to get up and break his neck. Heaven help him if he tried breaking in while Passions was on.
