STARBURSTS
Lasik eye surgery is performed to correct refractive errors in a person’s eyes. Lasik has helped many people, but it also has some side effects. The common side effects of Lasik include dry eyes, induced astigmatism, night glare and halos, haze, corneal abrasions, corneal flap risks, regression and epithelial ingrowths. One of the most common side effects of Lasik is dry eyes. Patients usually experience a feeling of grittiness in their eyes after Lasik surgery. This condition will gradually disappear within one to three months. The patient has to treat dry eyes with lubricating eye drops. Another common side effect of Lasik surgery is induced astigmatism. Astigmatism can be induced sometimes after a Lasik surgery. This results in blurred vision. Another common side effect of Lasik is corneal abrasion. Even when the best surgical techniques are used, there is a breakdown in the cornea of some patients. Another side effect, which is very common in people who have undergone Lasik surgery, is night glare and halos. People who wear spectacles and contact lenses are prone to night glares. They also see starbursts. This happens because the pupils dilate and the rays get scattered before they reach the retina. The other side effects such as corneal flap risks and epithelial ingrowths are not very common, but some people have reported these side effects after undergoing Lasik surgery.
